This post is a consolidation of these thoughts posting on my Facebook and a reader's response before switching to the blog:

To me this verse is talking about a bigger purpose. As in life purpose. Kind of a big picture purpose. Deep water is refering to your purpose not being clear to me but if you are a man of understanding your purpose in life will become clear. I think it is referring to you as a father and husband! A man who understands that can "draw out" what his purpose in that/those roles is.

Not just a father and husband but "a man after God's own heart" as well!

Perhaps, as human beings we can be kind of stubborn and hard headed. We have a dream for one thing that just can't/won't come true but we keep dreaming and trying to acheive. However, if we can't acheive it them it is not God's will. Perhaps, if we let God take the reigns he will send us in the right direction. God is God of course, but sometimes if you think of him in a more intimate way like "daddy" (which he is) you will understand/see your relationship in a different light. Like you and your son. He is daddy and you are his son. As his kids we can be stubborn, but if we jsut let him be "daddy" he'll lead us in the right direction you just have to trust. If you do that, one day you will have your "ah haaaa" moment and at that time you will understand why God's will was what it was and not as you "thought" it should be. We are only human, we do not see in the way God sees. I'd trust him over our own human brains! :) I kinda think he knows what he's doing!!! :)

Trust God that your place is right where you are. If you dont' trust you will leave this world after never knowing your true purpose!!! YOU ARE WHERE GOD WANTS YOU TO BE!!!!

Reader,I agree with you 100% that my purpose is a man of God, a husband, and father. I also believe that this dream is from God...believe me I have gone from chasing it to the exclusion of everything else to trying to kill it and bury it. The bottom line is; it is still there after 30+ years. Now I am not going to leave all for for it, but I truly believe God will bless our family as we work on this endeavor together. It is going to start small. We will start with me and the boys doing some karting up at NJ Motorsports Park. Debbie has been concerned that I live in my own little world [which I do]. I have been praying for awhile about it and this is the way God is taking me to bring them into my world. Some guys take their sons fishing or camping to impart their wisdom to them. I will take them karting. I appreciate your prayers, feedback, etc on what I am doing? It is a great blessing. Scott

Me:
It is an intangible concept. For Chris, Elliot, & Nathan, it isn't about getting them into racing. It is about bringing them into my world. I just read an article about a 61 year old racer named Harold Seagle. He explains it better than I can:"...People get to know us by what we do and how we contribute. On the other hand, I believe we develop our self-perception and define ourselves by what we are or have done that makes us feel good about ourselves... I think we all want to think of ourselves as courageous, capable, dedicated and ultimately successful. In racing, you don't have to win to realize success. Just finishing the race, earning the respect of your fellow racers and riding past the checkered flag is a measure of success." [Full article here]

The racing that I have done in the past has been the confidence and strength that I have. Those are what I want to model to them and the world at large. It isn't just about trophies. Of course, the trophies would be nice too, but it isn't the end all.
